Born in Marietta, Georgia and a Georgian nearly the entirety of his life, Darrell has practiced law in Cobb County continuously since 2003.
Darrell received his Bachelor of Science degree in 2000, cum laude, from Berry College in Rome, Georgia. He then attended Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law in Macon, Georgia, where in 2003 he received his Juris Doctor degree. Darrell has remained connected to the Law School since graduation through its Alumni Association Board of Directors, in February 2018 becoming the Alumni Association’s President-Elect.
Darrell was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in November 2003. He is licensed to practice in all Georgia State and Superior Courts, the Court of Appeals of Georgia and the Georgia Supreme Court, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, and the United States Supreme Court.
A career-long insurance defense litigator, Darrell and his firm defend individuals, businesses, insurers, self-insured companies, and third-party administrators in workers' compensation and commercial general liability claims, as well as insurance coverage disputes.
Service to the legal profession is important to Darrell. On June 9, 2018, he was sworn-in as President-Elect of the State Bar of Georgia, and he will become the 57th State Bar of Georgia President on July 1, 2019. This follows terms as the State Bar’s Secretary (2016-2017) and Treasurer (2017-2018), and extensive service to the State Bar of Georgia Young Lawyers Division (YLD) as its 67th President (2013-2014), President-Elect (2012-2013), Treasurer (2011-2012) and Secretary (2010-2011). Darrell also is a member of the State Bar of Georgia Executive Committee (2012-2015; 2016-) and Board of Governors (2012-2015; 2016-).
This service to the State Bar of Georgia is in addition to Darrell’s service to the Cobb County Bar Association. Darrell served as President of the Cobb County Bar Association from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017. Preceding this were terms as the Cobb Bar’s President-Elect (2015-2016) and Treasurer (2014-2015), as well as service on the Bar Association’s Board of Trustees (2007-2017) and a term as President of the Cobb County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (2007-2008). In recognition of this service, Darrell received the Cobb County Bar Association President’s Award in 2008 and 2009 and the Ross Adams Younger Lawyer Award in 2010.
Service to the community also is important to Darrell. He was a member of the Cobb County Board of Ethics from 2008 to 2017, serving as Board Chairman between May 2015 and December 2017. Darrell also is a member of the Georgia Legal Services Program Board of Directors, the Cobb Justice Foundation Board of Directors, and the Board of Directors of Lawyers for Equal Justice, a first-of-its-kind law practice incubator project that is a collaborative effort of Georgia’s law schools, the State Bar of Georgia and the Georgia Supreme Court.
Darrell and his wife Meredith are proud parents to four year old daughter Louise and two year old son Wilson. The joy of family offsets the routine disappointment and frustration Darrell experiences as a life-long Atlanta Falcons fan.
